Sandbridge Beach, VA

Family Beach, Fantastic Rentals

Sandbridge Beach, VA is a little piece of the Virginia coast you don’t want to miss. It may not be as well known as some of the other beach towns in the eastern US, but that is one reason why it’s so special. This peaceful stretch of coastline is a family-oriented community about 15 miles south of Virginia Beach. Part of its beauty and seclusion is due to its border of the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

Sandbridge is all about family fun, peace and quiet, and kicking back. There’s a little grocery store at the main crossroads, some bait and tackle shops, and a bakery. The beach has a handful of restaurants that are quite good. We recommend the Baja (real casual with great pizza and seafood plus a lounge) and Margie & Ray’s (fantastic home cooked seafood).

A vacation at this Virginia beach is neat because you can enjoy the small beach atmosphere, yet big-time amusements are right up the road. The Virginia Beach boardwalk, Beach Street USA, a water park, museums and much more are just 20 minutes away.

Their surfing camps are a huge attraction. They’ll teach you to paddle out, catch a wave, stand up and surf. Instructors take you out to Little Island Park at the end of the beach area, very spacious with uncrowded sandbars. They also rent surfing gear for any level surfer. Find them on Sandbridge Rd and check out their different packages.
  • Hell’s Point Golf Club signature golf course is a 5-10 minute drive. It winds through the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and has been acclaimed by Golf Digest as “One of the Best New Courses You Can Play.”
  • Fishing from both surf and pier is great at Sandbridge Beach VA. The Sandbridge Pier (called the Little Island Fishing Pier) is a real favorite for locals and vacationers. Community effort keeps the pier very clean and attractive – it’s part of the Little Island Park public beach area. Among common catches are Spot, Red and Black Drum, Spanish and King Mackerel, Flounder, Whiting, Speckled and Grey Trout, and Croaker.

Enjoy freshwater fishing on Back Bay. In fact, many Sandbridge Bay rental homes are situated on canals that lead out to Back Bay, with boat docks that are just right for fishing and crabbing. So bring your poles and throw a line out!
