Sandbridge Beach, VA

Family Beach, Fantastic Rentals

Sandbridge Beach, VA is a little piece of the Virginia coast you don’t want to miss. It may not be as well known as some of the other beach towns in the eastern US, but that is one reason why it’s so special. This peaceful stretch of coastline is a family-oriented community about 15 miles south of Virginia Beach. Part of its beauty and seclusion is due to its border of the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

Sandbridge is all about family fun, peace and quiet, and kicking back. There’s a little grocery store at the main crossroads, some bait and tackle shops, and a bakery. The beach has a handful of restaurants that are quite good. We recommend the Baja (real casual with great pizza and seafood plus a lounge) and Margie & Ray’s (fantastic home cooked seafood).

A vacation at this Virginia beach is neat because you can enjoy the small beach atmosphere, yet big-time amusements are right up the road. The Virginia Beach boardwalk, Beach Street USA, a water park, museums and much more are just 20 minutes away.

 Sandbridge Beach Rentals

This is a community that is mainly filled with rental properties. In fact, for every one resident there are five rental properties available for visitors.

Most of these vacation rentals are available for daily or weekly packages. And since Sandbridge Beach is geared towards vacationers, the town has taken great steps to ensure that there are plenty of attractions and amenities to draw visitors back year after year.

Beach rentals here cater to every need – from small resort condos such as The Sanctuary Resort, to magnificent beachfront homes. Sandbridge Beach is a favorite destination for family groups vacationing together. Many of the rental homes are large houses for up to 18-20 people, just right for multiple families or reunions.

Things To Do In Sandbridge Beach, VA

The welcoming, peaceful beaches are the top attraction. Five miles of wide sandy shores, fun waves and lots of room. However, sometimes you need to take a break from the sun and the surf. There are plenty of fun things to do without ever driving into the heart of the Virginia Beach resort area.

  • Hand-pick your daily adventure at Back Bay Getaways. They will set you up to go kayaking through the waters of the beautiful Back Bay, bicycle through nature trails, or camp out on an isolated beachfront. They have Kayak Tours, mountain bike tours, jet ski tours, and surf lessons. You can even rent a pontoon boat! Great way to have a blast, and the prices are right. You’ll find Back Bay Getaways at the end of Sandpiper Road, just past the Baja Restaurant. A Must Do!
  • Just as much fun is the Sandbridge Surf & Adventure Co. This outfit creates overnight getaways in beach cottages complete with surf lessons and kayak tours. Their surfing camps are a huge attraction. They’ll teach you to paddle out, catch a wave, stand up and surf. Instructors take you out to Little Island Park at the end of the beach area, very spacious with uncrowded sandbars. They also rent surfing gear for any level surfer. Find them on Sandbridge Rd and check out their different packages.
  • Hell’s Point Golf Club signature golf course is a 5-10 minute drive. It winds through the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and has been acclaimed by Golf Digest as “One of the Best New Courses You Can Play.”
  • Fishing from both surf and pier is great at Sandbridge Beach VA. The Sandbridge Pier (called the Little Island Fishing Pier) is a real favorite for locals and vacationers. Community effort keeps the pier very clean and attractive – it’s part of the Little Island Park public beach area. Among common catches are Spot, Red and Black Drum, Spanish and King Mackerel, Flounder, Whiting, Speckled and Grey Trout, and Croaker.

Enjoy freshwater fishing on Back Bay. In fact, many Sandbridge Bay rental homes are situated on canals that lead out to Back Bay, with boat docks that are just right for fishing and crabbing. So bring your poles and throw a line out!
